Home Maintenance Tips : Interior Doors

If you’re having problems with your interior doors I think it is better for you to start maintaining it by proper care. As we all know doors are the first fixture that anyone would see the moment they enter a house.

I as a matter of fact look at the door first when entering a house for the first time. Because they are the main entrance to a home owner’s heart. I really get amazed on people who give priority on their doors than the other interior or exterior in their houses.

Anyways, if you are like me who care for doors and would love to make them last long, here are some maintenance tips on how to properly take care of them.

Follow these maintenance guidelines to help you care for interior doors.

Basic hinged doors

• Make sure the hinge screws remain tight. If they loosen, tighten them again.
• Avoid getting paint on the hinges during any repainting.

Bi-fold doors

• If these doors become difficult to operate or jump from their tracks, find their adjustment areas, which are located on the rear sides of the doors. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to adjust the doors.
• Check the top corner brackets for loosening of the setscrews.
• Avoid getting paint on the top spring-loaded pins during any repainting.

Bypass doors

• If these doors become difficult to operate or jump from their tracks, find their adjustment areas, which are located on the rear sides of the doors. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to adjust the doors.
• Avoid getting paint on the door track or rollers during any repainting.
• Be careful when opening bypass doors. Bumping the doors forcefully against the door opening returns can jump the doors off the top tracks.

Sliding pocket doors

• If these doors become difficult to operate, it’s likely they’ve jumped from their tracks. Check the rollers to see if they’re broken or off the track. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to adjust the doors.
• Tighten or replace the screws if a roller is loose. If a roller is broken, you’ll have to replace it.

Doorknobs and locks

• Try to avoid excessive play on the doorknob escutcheon plate, when opening or closing a door.
• Keep the release pins or keys for interior doors in a handy place. Use them to unlock an interior door from the outside.
• Clean the hardware on a regular basis per the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Tighten any exposed hardware screws.
• Make sure all hardware works smoothly.

I sure hope these tips had help a lot of homeowners out there. :)

Clutter Solution : Garages and Sheds - Car Care

My husband is always doing something in our garage and I’m saying that he’s always in his garage everyday checking on his car. Well, that also means that he always messes up with our garage and with his car.

Unfortunately, he’s not really the mechanic type of guy who is an expert on cars and if you or your husband is just like mine, you check this de-clutter tips that might save you big time on migraines. Lol!

Decades ago when cars were mechanically simpler, you could save money by doing basic car repairs yourself. These days, most repairs relate to computerized functions within the car and are best left to professionals. But anyone who is willing to get his or her hands dirty can still save a little money by changing the oil, rotating tires, and performing other basic car maintenance. And most people like to keep their cars clean. The best way to keep car supplies organized is a sturdy set of shelves. Wire "restaurant shelving" can be most effective, but other shelf units can work as well, just as long as they are easily cleaned and have room for all your car supplies. To keep things simple, segregate supplies by function — keep extra oil and filters in one area, put all cleaning supplies on their own shelf, and so forth. Be sure to lock up these supplies to keep them away from curious children.

How To Clean a Microwave Oven

If there is a turntable, remove it and wash in warm, sudsy water or in the dishwasher; then dry. To clean the interior, boil a cup of water inside for 3 to 4 minutes. The condensation will loosen any food soil on the walls or ceiling of the oven. Then wipe with a damp sponge or cloth, and dry. Never use a commercial oven cleaner or remove the cover in the top of the oven interior for cleaning. To deodorize, wash the interior surfaces every few months with a solution of 1/4 cup of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water; rinse and dry.

Home Maintenance Tips : Wood Flooring

Wood flooring adds an inviting and charming atmosphere. With proper care, you make sure it retains its long-term aesthetic value.

Real wood flooring is made from a number of different types of wood, such as beech, maple, and oak. Flooring ranges in durability depending on the type of wood used. All wood expands and contracts as the weather changes; it can shrink in extreme dryness or swell in extreme humidity. The benefits of wood floors lie in their stylish appearance, as well as in their ability to last a lifetime with good care.

How to maintain it?

Follow these maintenance suggestions for your home’s wood flooring.

• Vacuum, sweep, or dust mop wood flooring once a week (or more, if needed). If vacuuming, use a bare floor setting or attachment; beater bars can damage the flooring.
• Protect your floors from dirt and sand, as they can scratch the finish. Placing rugs at the entrances to rooms with wood flooring can help minimize the amount of dirt and sand.
• Use pads, such as felt stick-on pads, under furniture legs. Narrow-legged furniture often will damage wood flooring by leaving indentations in the surface. Don’t drag furniture or other heavy objects across the floor.
• Preserve the original color of the wood flooring by closing curtains or blinds to protect it from direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause your floors to fade and can delaminate the finish.
• Keep animal nails trimmed, and avoid walking on wood floors with spike-heeled or stiletto-heeled shoes, or with shoes that have heel taps or sharp objects protruding from the soles.
• Keep wood floors within a certain temperature range. Check your manufacturer’s recommendations to make sure extreme heat and cold won’t damage your floor.
